Abstract

We examined the effects thet low producers’ participation in the olive oil regulation market have in the food cahin production at Andalucia. This regions is the largest producer area of olive oil in the world. We obtained information through 141 interviews at productive groups. We compared producing tactics from independent and organized cooperative groups. It was found that in the olive oil de-regularization process, producers have not been able to change strategies. They have concentrated in improving quality of the raw material and assure anough supply for their clients. However, this is not sufficient to consolidate associations to increase higher profits and, also to have better sales apportunities at the marketplace. To improve their strategies it is proposed the professionalism of the cooperatives considering the market view, in order to obtain more efficient models for integration.
