Abstract

In Mexico, coccinellid hibernation and the different factors involved are poorly known. The objetive of this work was to determine the abundancethe hibernation habitats were mainly found in meadows of Pinus hartwegii Lindl. forest; with the highest abundance of hibernating coccinellids, the biological and physical conditions, and find areas where they hibernaute in the Zoquiapan National Park. The study was conducted during the winter 1994-1995. Three coccinellid species were found to be more abundant in the area: Hippodamia koebelei Timberlake (84.6%), Coccinella nugatoria nugatoria Mulsant (14.2%) and Cycloneda sanguinea sanguinea (L.)(1.2%). The hibernation habitats were mainly found in meadows of Pinus hartwegii Lindl. forest; with the highest abundance in Muhlenbergia macroura (H.B.K.)
