Abstract

This artcle exposes a typology of dairy ranchers in the region of Los Altos in Jalisco. For this purpose operative regions were established, after that a typology was formaized according to different levels of frofitability, and finally, its implications were analyzed. The more competitive farmers have managed to archieve high levels of yield and profitability of working through the adoption of Holstein model that consist in a considerable insertion in consumable and product markets. A conclusion is made about the existence of six categories of ranchers with differential characteristics and development options.
