Abstract

Abstract. The rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) is a specie whose meat has a great quality and it offers a good productive model. These characteristics are employed as a good feed alternative by eradicate hunger in poor world regions. However it is able to be infected by Encephalitozoon cuniculi, a microosporidia which has zoonotic activity. The pups can be infected from maternal urine spores, distributed by blood tissue and to be accumulated in muscle, kidney and lung; successively they can be meet in brain, being the reason of encephalitozoonosis. The parasite has a reproductive specialized style that increased its zoonotic potential in depressed and starvated populations. It is necessary to screen its presence with succes in order to protect public health in Mexico.
