This essay seeks to fill the vacuum left by two authors who have analyzed the Green Revolution in Mexico; Cynthia Hewitt de Alcántara and Joseph Cotter. It responds indirectly to several of Rockefeller Foundation scientists concentrated on addressing the needs that Mexican authorities themselves indicated were a priority in rural Mexico. This essay discusses the stepsthat Rockefeller Foundation scientists took to ensure their success in Mexico, establish a “Mexican Agricultural Project” connected with the Ministry of Agriculture and Development, and work in the experimental plots of the National School of Agriculture in Chapingo. The goal of all of these activities was to produce food that would meet the needs of a population, such as that of Mexico, which is constantly growing but has few resources to feed itself.
