Organizaciones campesinas mexicanas y sus vínculos transnacionales

Abstract

Recent demostrations held by campesino organizactions in Mexico have shattered the old corporate style of government. From the very start, these orbanizations were eager to be independent ofthe government and political parties, and also to propose solutions for the deepening crisis facing rural areas and residents as the zero tariff in NAFTA’s agricultural chapter takes effect. These organizations are connected by a new mobilization of transnational citizen and political activist networks whose most valuable tool is their ability to generate and spread information. Examples are given of this relationship between networks and spread information. Citizen organizations, which are connected on a local, regional, and global level. However, a warning is also provided concerning the potential negative effects of these transnational citizen networks, both on the campesino organizations and on the government.
