Abstract

The ethnoflora Yucatense programs is carried out at the Departament of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán. Its main objetive is to study plant resources in the Yucatan Peninsula Taking considering classic botanical and taxonomic aspect, whit a strong ethobotanical content. The program started in 1989, whit University of California funds. The program is integrated by the following projets: 1) a herbarium whit almost 30,000 plants samples, 2) a botanical garden whit 1,000 plants species , distributed in ornamental gardens, an epiphytarium, nine medicinal plant plots, a forage plant plot and secondary vegetation and low deciduous forest area. The other projects in the Program are: 3) The Yucatan Peninsula Ethnobotanical Data Bank (BADEPY) which 3,000 records about plants' use and management, and 4) the Yucatan Peninsula Floristic Data Bank (BAFLOPY) which contains 23,000 records. The fifth proyect consist on a periodical Ethnoflora publication, with 18 numbers already.
