Porcine farming is a highly important activity worldwide, creates a high source of income in the countries and is directly related to agricultural production. In Mexico, since 1972, pig-raising has been a source of income and a generator of extremely important jobs; However, as of 1984, with the withdrawal in subsidies to pig farmers, the increase in prices in sorghum and oilseeds, and opening to the international market, has been in constant decline, which has slowed its growth. In this paper a brief review is made on the behavior of the Mexican pig production from 1972 to date, analyzing its growths and falls, as well as those factors that have improved or affected this industry.
