Abstract

Food security is an issue of great importance to the Mexican society that is increasingly urbanizing. It also requires a regional approach, amongst others, taking into account the urban-rural interactions. In this article, we discuss the issue of food security in an exploratory way, parting from the notion of City-Region Agroalimentary System, illustrated by a case study in the state of Jalisco. Our case exemplifies the local-regional agroalimentary dynamics, illustrating a lack of food security at the municipal level and a growing dependence on food from abroad. We end our article with a discussion and conclusion on the food security issue in regional spaces.
