Abstract

Abstract. peri-urban municipalities of northeastern Mexico City, its territories and types of traditional and commercial agriculture, have been subordinated to new processes generated by the dynamics of the secondary and tertiary sectors, which have reshaped the regional prototype of urbanization. In northeastern Mexico Valley the presence of revenues from non-agricultural activities in 47% of peri-urban production systems analyzed were recorded. Nonfarm income represents 33.9% of total revenue, equivalent on average per month to $ 5544.20 2013; mainly by income from trade and services. 78% of households reported having no dedicated farm income up to 30% of that income to sustain agricultural activities of production units. The importance of nonfarm income among farmers evidence the need to promote programs and interventions with comprehensive vision to promote agricultural production and territorial processes that generate farm income.
