Abstract

The objective of this paper focuses on the intellectual property rights on plant genetic resources impact (on vegetables varieties) in Mexico, especially on maize. This paper include a short explanation of the intellectual property rights evolution on plant genetic resources at international and national level, to emphases the multinational companies and the developed countries roll and the international agreements, which Mexico is member. The social effect of the “Ley de Producción, Certificación y Comercialización de Semillas” on native varieties of the small, local and indigenous people is too analyzed and the possible social impact if Mexico is part of UPOV ´91.
