Abstract

Abstract. Tampico Alto is located on the shores of Laguna Tamiahua in the north of the State of Veracruz. It has an agricultural economy what employ 55% of the economically active population. The agrarian production is dominated by jicama, fishing, especially shrimp, cattle ranching and to a lesser extent, by pineapple and watermelon plantations. These activities have characteristics that can be formed Localized Agri-food Systems (Sial) due to: the spatial concentration of economic units and the presence of cooperatives. However, our research conducted along 2013 showed socio productive and organizational limitations of these activities to form a Sial. These are the lack of cooperation between local stakeholders to define joint strategies for production, clientelist management of the associations of producers and logistical problems due to the few roads and the ubiquitous presence of Tamiahua lagoon
