Abstract

Abstract: This article focuses its analysis on certain concepts that have been included within local development analysis, placing particular emphasis on analysing concepts related to collective action and social capital. Subsequently, the article tests the theory using the case of nopal (prickly pear cactus) production in the community of Tlalnepantla in the state of Morelos (Mexico). The article concludes that there are characteristics of territorial development in this community, such as appropriation and management of local resources (environmental, cultural and social), as well as valuing certain intangible assets such as solidarity and trust, which enable social organization. All of this indicates that social capital and collective action analysis are key elements in territorial develoment, given that they, in large part, enable an understanding of the ways in which social organization forms to drive, or even curb, the success of these systems.
