Abstract

Abstract. The study defined a typology of producers in Texcoco Region, Mexico State which identifies their characteristics and needs to identify elements of public policy. Multivariate statistical methods were used to select quantitative variables with high discriminating power as the coefficient of variation. The correlation matrix between variables were calculated. The principal components for discriminating variables and Ward’s method was used to identify clusters. The following production systems were found: Campesino pluriactive; subsistence farm household; market-oriented agriculture with low level of capitalization; and intensive agriculture. The territorial policy focused on the first two production systems and defined actions to reduce rural poverty.
