Abstract. The profitability of 4 strategies of breed related with compensatory growth was compared on Cyprinus carpio culture with ornamental purposes. A total of 960 fishes of 8 weeks of age were used and distributed in 4 groups that combined 2 growth density and 2 feed rations: low density (LD)-optimal feed ration (OF), LD-Restricted Feed Ration (RF), High Density (HD)- OF and HD-RF. These conditions were kept along 12 weeks, at the 13 th week (T 1) density and feedrations were adjusted at LD-OF and the fishes were harvested on the 18 th week (T2). There was partial compensatory growth between the T 1 and T 2, the weight at T 2 on all the strategies were lower than that of LD-OF. The profitability was estimated as the relation between the income (benefit obtained from the sales of the fishes on T1 and T2) and the outcome (costs of the fingerlings, food, infrastructure and variable expenses) of each system. The strategy with the highest profitability was HD-OF, because the sales of the fishes on T1 and a better market price at T2, obtained from the partial compensatory growth.
