Abstract

Abstract. In the 1990s the citrus production was consolidated in Arroyo Blanco, Veracruz and is currently it mains economic activity. To know about women’s participation in the activity a qualitative exploratory study was performed with twenty women from domestic groups, where there were one or more of them working in it. Women participate in all stages of production without gender differentiation. For the work done women and males receive similar pay and they work in respectful and supportive environments because their family relationships. Women are still responsible for household chores. In Arroyo Blanco the citrus production offers women a source of income; they have become visible to their household and community, who recognize the importance of their contributions. Altogether has improved the women´s position but it has reinforced their double workload.
