Abstract

Abstract. The vulnerability, a concept that explains the tendency of an element to be affected by the occurrence of an event, and the gender approach, an analysis, intervention and action instrument to promote equitable relationships between women and men are the focuses of this research. With the methodological and conceptual livelihood approach surveys and interviews were conducted in Ixil, a community in the state of Yucatan. The object was to obtain answers to three questions: What actions do Ixil families does to avoid losing or compromising their resources? What relations exist between different capitals that make the community more or less vulnerable? What are the perceptions and conditions differentiated between men and women about vulnerability? The results provide elements for the analysis of the relations between society and its resources (capitals) and indicate the importance of strengthening the risk management process.
