Abstract

The present paper proposes the integration of complex systems theory and participatory research in the study of social organizations towards sustainability (OSS), further suggesting that the OSS are socio environmental structures that behave like Dissipative Complex Systems, open systems, where interactions occur abroad translated into exchanges of matter and energy, resources, goods and services, interactions that lead to its operation and which internally, the subsystems plays a specific role, thanks to the relationships among them, relationships and interactions that reflect the structure of the system. Accordingly, it is proposed the study of this type of organization by the following steps: A) building the system, B) assessment of sustainability and C) synthesis of system performance by studying their attributes. This based on an exchange of knowledge (technical, academic and community) with support tools such as PRA and postures involved from values, concepts and techniques that support other than conventional research.
