Abstract

In Mexico the sexist language, implicitly or explicitly, is used as it builds and reproduces power relationships and discrimination against women. As an ONU´s member, Mexico has agreed to adopt measures to eradicate the linguistic sexism through the implementation of legal frameworks. This study aimed to assess through discourse analysis and gender perspective the use of oral and graphic language in promotion of health, in a project to detect Taenia solium in rural communities in the State of Mexico. Discourses analysis demonstrates the overwhelming use of the masculine over the feminine and denotes poor progress in the use of inclusive language as well as the prevailing androcentrism. However, women´s participation was important for the development of all activities.
