Abstract

Ecological dominance of Schoenoplectus tabernaemontanis in Apizaquito reservoir is amazing because of the energy flow in the growths of this emergent plant in which competence and predation are most common interespecific relationships. This freshwater emergent macrofite habitat is determined by clayey slimy sandy sediments: its growth achieves with temperature between 13 to 23°C and pH from 7.0 to 7.4 and 6.2 to 6.8 mg/l dissolved oxygen concentrations fluctuations. Most increments on population density were observed in summer and autumn months just after the rainy season. Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani constitute sediments traps that contribute to Apizaquito reservoir obstruction. This monocotyledonean angiosperm is economically important because its direct utilization in locality for different uses and because fishes and birds depend of it for food and habitat and for reproduction processes besides other aquatic communities integrants.
