The article analyzes a polemic of recent applications of genetic enginnering in agricultura: the sterile seeds terminador. Critical elements about possible advantages and risk of this technology are offered as well as a description of actions in favor of and against it. The article specifies exactly the firms owning this technology and also a global mobilization of nongovernmental, peasant and environmental organizations against this technology. Genetic technology permits multinational enterprises to consolidate their control over world food production. The article concludes with reflections on whether this case could be an example of the possible reorienting of new agricultural technologies to balance the power of multinatioanl corporations.
