Abstract

In the context of the new rurality and the feminization of agriculture, the objective of this paper is to analyze changes and continuities in the productive activities of rural women. From an ethnographic point of view in a community of Veracruz, Mexico the perceptions, experiences and expectations of women and men are reconstructed. Through focus groups with 16 domestic units, openended interviews with 10 women, 8 key informants, participatory methods and participant observation, we contribute with empirical evidence to the existence of a new rurality. The paper demostrates an upward exclusion of rural women in agricultural activities. How even their integration into other productive activities illustrades the agency of these new actresses of the Mexican countryside.
