Abstract

Abstract. Water needs in rural communities of arid zones pose great challenges to their habitants and authorities. Water management can involve men and women through participative processes like the one implemented in San Antonio Juárez, municipality of Tzicatlacoyan, Puebla, where a group of women was accompanied towards the adoption of 72 water collection technology. Ten ferrocemento systems were installed, relying on collective work and a revolving fund. These systems provide water to ten households for eight months a year, thus reducing women’s workloads and improving hygiene practices.
