Abstract

Abstract: This article analyses how women’s roles influence the construction of knowledge of forest resources, especially medicinal plants. The study was carried out in the community of Santa Catarina del Monte, State of México. Observation, group interviews, in depth interviews and a survey were the research techniques used in the field. Results 18 show that women identify useful species, where they grow and when, what part of the plant must be used, how to collect them and how to make remedies. Women contribute to the conservation of traditional knowledge and the production of new knowledge because their use of medicinal plants improves people´s health and generates income for the domestic economy.
