Abstract. Lernaeosis is an aquatic sanitarian problem caused by parasitic copepods (Lernaea spp.) that affects poeciliid culture in Morelos state backyard farms. Its incidence diminishes fish vigor, decreases fish reproductive potential, alters fish esthetic features, causes fish vital organs damage, and sometimes death of fish subject to culture. However, Mexican parasitological data regarding this parasitosis are wanted; hence, it is essential to examine the referred host-parasite interaction in order to minimize lernaeosis negative effect over the production of ornamental fish.
