Abstract

The ornamental fish culture is one of the main economic activities at the Morelos State, being the Poeciliidae family the most cultivated at the fish farms. The objective of the present work was to estimate the efficiency of a cycle production in a family farm. Were analyzed every week the following parameters: ammonium, nitrates, nitrites, dissolved oxygen, temperature and the pH. To estimate the production size were consider 20% of mortality and a fertility average of 20 organisms for female. Results show were obtained 843 females, prevailing the molly fish (61.9%) and the swordtail fish the scarcest (5.7%). Was considered that when concluding the production cycle 13,488 individuals will being obtained, differing of the final crop where 7,282 were obtained, equivalent to 54.1%. The quality of water was not adapted, since the nitrogen components are above the permissible levels and the one oxygenates it is in the minimum levels. It was concluded that the profitability of the production cycle was affected in a negative way by the handling of the farm.
