Abstract

Retrospective information, of data related to a production cycle of the prawn, in a farm located in Morelos state, at central region of Mexico was analyzed. Principal purpose is analyze farm management, that allowed cultural permanence, considering production, organization and social benefits. Evaluation was carried out in three ponds with a total surface of 3,361 m2. Post larval were seeded with a density of 9.16 organisms/m2;. Yield composition and sales per month is described, as well as water quality of the culture. Information about organization and social benefits was obtained through interviews and participative observations. Results indicated that water quality was appropriate and culture management was deficient since control of the culture was lost. The prawn harvested amount was approximately 560.1 kg, with an average yield of 0.167 kg/m2. Income sale was $22,404. Operation cost of production was $18,419.85, the net profit was $3,984.15 and cost-benefits ratio was 1.22. It is concluded that control loss of commercial densities and prawn size resulted of an inadequate farm management. Cultural factors were reflected in organization, because of was oriented to a self subsistence production than to a commercial one; this suggest a peasant strategy transition in resources use, that it’s related to transformation from agriculturist to acuaculturist.
