Posibilidades y limitaciones de la actividad apícola en el Municipio de Tolimán, Querétaro, México

Resumen

La apicultura es una actividad que se basa en la sustentabilidad, sin embargo, actualmente enfrenta muchas condiciones adversas que reducen sus posibilidades para continuar. En este artículo presentamos un estudio de caso, identificando la apifauna en el municipio de Tolimán, Querétaro. A la vez, describimos las posibilidades y limitaciones que tiene un grupo de apicultores/as para continuar esta actividad de forma sustentable. Nuestros resultados arrojaron cuatro diferentes polinizadores invertebrados, incluyendo a Apis mellifera. El conocimiento que se tiene de la actividad apícola ha sido mantenido por la transmisión oral, de apicultor a apicultor, pero para los apicultores no es redituable esta actividad por lo que está pasando a un segundo término. Entre las limitantes a las que se enfrentan son las pocas oportunidades para aumentar su unidad de producción y el conflicto de espacios para establecer apiarios.

Beekeeping is an activity that meets all sustainability requirements. Beekeepers face different conditions that limit their possibilities to continue. In this article we focus on the fauna identified and on the possibilities and limitations of a group of beekeepers in the municipality of Tolimán, Querétaro, Central Mexico. The results show that four different invertebrate pollinators can be found at the site, includingApis mellifera. Local knowledge on beekeeping has been maintained by oral transmission, that is, from beekeeper to beekeeper, most of whom have as their main activity other activities, passing beekeeping to a second term. Among the limitations they face are the few opportunities to invest in the activity and to be able to increase their production unit, in addition to the conflict of spaces to establish apiaries.
